POLLUTION CONTROL FOR QUARRY OPERATIONS
AIR POLLUTION IS THE MOST IMMEDIATE AND SERIOUS PROBLEM FACING THE CRUSHED STONE INDUSTRY TODAY. BASICALLY, THE CRUSHED STONE INDUSTRY IS FACED WITH TWO DISTINCT DUST PROBLEMS: (1) THE PROBLEM GENERATED BY DUST FROM THE CRUSHING, SCREENING, AND PROCESSING USED TO MANUFACTURE THE PRODUCT; (2) THE PROBLEM CREATED BY RE-ENTRAINMENT OF PREVIOUSLY SETTLED DUST ON HAUL ROADS AND STOCKPILE AREAS. SOME METHODS OF CONTROL THAT HAVE BEEN SUGGESTED ARE TESTING HAUL ROADS, COVERING OR WATERING DOWN TRUCK LOADS, USING FINE WATER SPRAYS WITH WETTING AGENTS, HOUSING CERTAIN AREAS AND INSTALLING DUST COLLECTION EQUIPMENT. ULTIMATELY, THE TYPE OF SYSTEM SELECTED FOR EACH QUARRY WILL DEPEND UPON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PARTICULAR OPERATION, THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE STONE BEING QUARRIED, LOCATION OF THE QUARRY, LAND USE AROUND THE QUARRY, ETC. /AUTHOR/
