PRECAST COMPOSITE SECTIONS IN STRUCTURES
THIS ARTICLE DISCUSSES THE ADVANTAGES, DISADVANTAGES, AND USES OF PRECAST COMPOSITE SECTIONS. EXAMPLES OF THEIR USE IN FOUR SMALL OR MEDIUM SPAN BRIDGES ARE INCLUDED. PROVISION OF COMPOSITE DECKS IN BRIDGES PERMITS LOADS WELL IN EXCESS OF THE NONCOMPOSITE DESIGN LOADING TO BE CARRIED. THIS MAY BE USED TO STRENGTHEN EXISTING BRIDGES ON OCCASION. PRECAST COMPOSITE TEE-SECTIONS COULD AUGMENT THE RANGE OF POPULAR PRECAST PRESTRESSED UNITS ON THE MARKET, AS WELL AS OFFERING A GREATER VARIETY OF ARCHITECTURAL SHAPES. /ACI/
