DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE OF TUNNELS OF GERMAN STATE RAILWAYS
SELF PROPELLED TUNNEL TESTING AND MEASUREMENT WAGONS HAVE BEEN PUT INTO SERVICE IN RAILWAY TUNNELS. REPAIR WORK USUALLY TAKES THE FORM OF REPOINTING AND RESEALING WITH CEMENT MORTAR AND CONCRETE GUNITE APPLICATIONS. FOR TUNNELS UNDER GROUNDWATER LEVEL, 1-2MM-THICK PVC SHEETING IS USED AS A SEALING MEMBRANE AND IS HELD IN POSITION BY STEEL SHEETS AND WIRE MESH, WITH AN INNER GUNITE LINING. METHODS ARE ALSO REVIEWED FOR THE REBUILDING OR ALTERATION, OF EXISTING TUNNELS, USING TUNNELLING MACHINES AND OPEN CUT METHODS. /TRRL/
