CONCRETE FINISHING PRACTICES
THE QUALITY AND SERVICEABILITY OF A CONCRETE FLOOR OR SLAB IS DEPENDENT MAINLY ON THE MATERIALS IN THE CONCRETE AND THE QUALITY OF THE CONCRETE PLACEMENT, FINISHING, AND CURING. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE OFFERED ON PLACING AND FINISHING TECHNIQUES AND THE TIMING OF THESE. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE FIRST OPERATION OF SPREADING, SCREEDING, AND DARBYING (OR BULLFLOATING) BE COMPLETED BEFORE ANY BLEEDING OF THE CONCRETE TAKES PLACE. AFTER THESE OPERATIONS ARE COMPLETED THERE SHOULD BE A LAPSE OF TIME BEFORE ANY OTHER FINISHING OPERATIONS ARE PERFORMED, INCLUDING EDGING, GROOVING, FLOATING, TROWELING. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE ALSO OFFERED ON THE FINISHING OF WEAR-RESISTANT CONCRETE FLOORS, COLORED SURFACES, NONSLIP SURFACES, AND EXPOSED AGGREGATE SURFACES. FINISHING PRACTICES ARE DESCRIBED FOR SLABS AND FLOORS OF EITHER AIR- ENTRAINED CONCRETE OR STRUCTURAL LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE. /AUTHOR/
