VISION AND HIGHWAY SAFETY
THE PURPOSE IS TO PROVIDE OPTOMETRISTS, HIGHWAY ENGINEERS, MANUFACTURERS, LEGISLATORS, LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL, AND OTHERS WITH INFORMATION ON THE VISUAL ASPECTS OF DRIVING A CAR. THE OPTOMETRIST WILL FIND INFORMATION OF VALUE FOR THE EYE EXAMINATION, FOR PRESCRIPTION OF DRIVING GLASSES, AND FOR BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE VISION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DRIVING TASK. GREAT EFFORTS ARE NOW BEING MADE TO IMPROVE THE HIGHWAY, THE MOTOR VEHICLE, AND DRIVER TRAINING. CAREFUL VISION TESTING AND ELEVATED VISION STANDARDS WILL ENSURE THAT THE DRIVER IS FULLY PREPARED VISUALLY. HOPEFULLY, THE INFORMATION PROVIDED WILL HELP UPGRADE VIRTUALLY ALL VISUAL ASPECTS OF THE DRIVING TASK. THOSE INTERESTED IN PURSUING THE DETAILS OF THE MASSIVE LITERATURE ON THE VISUAL ASPECTS OF DRIVING WILL FIND ASSISTANCE IN THE BIBLIOGRAPHY. /AUTHOR/
