APPLICATION OF THE ORI COST-EFFECTIVENESS SYSTEM TO THE STATE OF WISCONSIN
THIS STUDY BEGAN AS A DEMONSTRATION PROJECT TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT IN WISCONSIN THREE INTERRELATED MODELS PREVIOUSLY EMPIRICALLY VALIDATED IN MARYLAND-COST EFFECTIVENESS, AND FUND ALLOCATION FOR HIGHWAY ACCIDENT COUNTERMEASURES. THE OPTIMAL ALLOCATION OF $75,000 IN MARGINAL HIGHWAY SAFETY FUNDS FOR 28 COUNTIES RESULTED IN OVERALL REDUCTIONS OF 13 DEATHS AND 367 INJURIES. THESE REDUCTIONS, TOGETHER WITH FUNDS ALLOCATED, ARE CALCULATED FOR THE FOLLOWING STANDARDS: DRIVER EDUCATION; SPOT IMPROVEMENT; HIGHWAY DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE; TRAFFIC POLICE; TRAFFIC CONTROL; PEDESTRIAN SAFETY. /HSL/
