AN EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS OF ACCIDENT DATA USING INDUCED EXPOSURE
A CONTROL POPULATION OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS---ONE IN WHICH RESPONSIBILITY CAN DEFINITELY BE ASSIGNED TO ONE DRIVER OR VEHICLE---IS USED TO INVESTIGATE DRIVER AND VEHICLE AGE AS CAUSATIVE FACTORS. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT DRIVERS AGED 16-24 AND 56 PLUS ARE OVERREPRESENTED IN THE ACCIDENT POPULATION; NO CONCLUSION COULD BE DRAWN ABOUT VEHICLE AGE OR MODEL AS CAUSATIVE FACTORS.
