A FIRST LOOK -- DIFFERENCES IN INJURIES IN 1968 AND PRE-1968 AUTOMOBILES
ACCIDENT CASES FROM THE CORNELL AUTOMOTIVE CRASH INJURY RESEARCH (ACIR) DATA POOL INVOLVING 1968 CARS ARE EXAMINED TO DETERMINE WHETHER INJURY DIFFERENCES EXIST BETWEEN THESE CARS AND EARLIER MODELS. SPECIFIC DESIGN FEATURES ARE REVIEWED AND PHOTOGRAPHS AND DESCRIPTIONS OF ILLUSTRATIVE CASE HISTORIES ARE PROVIDED. IMPROVEMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH SEVERAL NEW DESIGN FEATURES ARE DESCRIBED AND SEVERAL INJURY HAZARDS OBSERVED IN THE 1968 CARS ARE POINTED OUT. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT SOME PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE, BUT FURTHER IMPROVEMENT IS POSSIBLE THROUGH DESIGN CHANGE. /AUTHOR/
