KAIMON MARU ADOPTS EXTENSIVELY FLANGELESS PIPING FOR USE IN ENGINE ROOM

Priority was given to the high pressure high temperature system of this 178,714 dwt oil tanker and welding was adopted in all parts including valves and cast steel pieces. Between the master valve at the main boiler heater outlet, main maneuvering valve and main turbine outlet, flanges are fitted at only three places necessary for overhauling of the maneuvering valve inlet and outlet as well as the main turbine inlet. Between the master valve of the main boiler heater and the generator turbine, only one flange is fitted at the generator turbine inlet. A diagram of the main steam connections is given, and problems of installing flangeless piping are discussed.
