A STUDY OF SEVERE VEHICULAR ACCIDENTS. PHASE 2. FINAL REPORT

RESULTS ARE GIVEN OF A STUDY OF 20 SEVERE AUTOMOBILE COLLISIONS IN ATLANTA, ANALYZED BY A MEDICO-ENGINEERING TEAM. RESEARCH INCLUDED AN EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STUDY OF FACTORS CAUSING ACCIDENTS AS WELL AS A STUDY OF THE SECONDARY COLLISIONS TO ESTABLISH THE KINEMATICS OF THE OCCUPANTS AND TO IDENTIFY THE FACTORS CAUSING INJURY AND DEATH. A PILOT STUDY PRECEDING THIS WORK DESCRIBED THE TRAINING OF THE MEDICO-ENGINEERING TEAM. THIS REPORT DESCRIBES SELECTION CRITERIA FOR THE ACCIDENTS STUDIED AND THE METHODS OF STUDY USED. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACCIDENT PREVENTION AND INJURY PREVENTION AND TREATMENT ARE INCLUDED. ATTEMPTS ARE MADE TO FIND THE PROBABLE CAUSE OF EACH ACCIDENT. /HSL/
