ACCIDENTS INVOLVING FIRE REPORTED TO THE BUREAU OF MOTOR CARRIER SAFETY, FHA, BY MOTOR CARRIERS OF RECORD AND CARRIERS OF EXEMPT COMMODITIES FOR THE FIRST 6 MONTHS OF 1968 ARE SUMMARIZED. ACCIDENTS REPORTED WERE THOSE WHICH RESULTED IN FATALITIES, INJURIES, OR PROPERTY DAMAGE OF $250.00 OR MORE. OF THE 21,682 ACCIDENTS REPORTED BY PROPERTY CARRIERS, 383 INVOLVED FIRE; PASSENGER CARRIERS REPORTED 8 CASES OF FIRE OUT OF 1,247 ACCIDENTS. PROPERTY CARRIERS REPORTED 85 FATALITIES, 179 INJURIES AND $4,115,512 PROPERTY DAMAGE. PASSENGER CARRIERS REPORTED 25 FATALITIES, 73 INJURIES, AND $127,226 PROPERTY DAMAGE. ACCIDENTS ARE TABULATED BY MONTH, SEVERITY, METHOD OF EXTINGUISHING FIRE, LOCATION OF FIRE, AND COMMODITY BEING CARRIED.
