THIS REPORT SURVEYS PROJECTED AND CURRENT MANPOWER REQUIREMENTS FOR THE STATES, IDENTIFIES MANPOWER RESOURCES, DESCRIBES JOBS, IDENTIFIES EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS AND ORGANIZATIONS WHICH COULD TRAIN SAFETY SPECIALISTS, AND PREPARES PLANS AND PROGRAMS TO FACILITATE HIGHWAY SAFETY PROGRAMS. ABOUT 65,000 STATE SAFETY SPECIALISTS ARE NOW EMPLOYED. THE ESTIMATED NUMBER NEEDED BY 1977 IS FROM 87,000 TO 250,000.
