DEVELOPMENT OF A VALVELESS PULSE JET POWERED RAILWAY TRACK SWITCH HEATER
A control system for starting the railway track switch heater and continuously monitoring its operating has been developed. The switch heater is capable of delivering over 1000 scfm of air at 190 to 225 F during a severe snowstorm. Fuel consumption is 2 gal/hr of propane. Electrical requirements are such that it can be used in the remote areas. The heater generates considerable noise and therefore cannot be used close to populated areas. Prototypes have been built and installed for field trial.
