REPORT ON THE TESTING OF TRIPLE-TRAILER COMBINATIONS IN ALBERTA
TESTS AND OBSERVATIONS HAVE SHOWN THAT WITHIN THE RANGE OF TRAFFIC AND OPERATING CONDITIONS FOUND ON THE DIVIDED HIGHWAY NO. 2 BETWEEN EDMONTON AND CALGARY, THE TRIPLE TRAILER TRUCK COMBINATION DOES NOT CREATE ANY SPECIAL HAZARDS TO TRAFIC SAFETY. PAVEMENT DEFLECTION TESTS INDICATE THAT WITH SIXTEEN THOUSAND POUND AXLE LOADINGS ON THE TRAILERS OF THE TRIPLE TRAILER UNIT THE STRESS APPLIED TO THE PAVEMENT IS NOT GREATER THAN THE STRESS CREATED BY REGULAR FIVE AXLE TRUCKS LOADED TO THE MAXIMUM PERMISSIBLE AXLE LOADINGS. /RATAOC/
