DYNAMIC TESTS OF TYPE 9 BRIDGE BARRIER RAIL AND TYPE 8 BRIDGE APPROACH- GUARDRAIL SERIES XVII
THE RESULTS ARE REPORTED OF ONE FULL SCALE VEHICLE IMPACT TEST INTO THE CALIFORNIA TYPE 9 BRIDGE BARRIER RAIL AND THREE TESTS INTO VARIOUS MODIFICATIONS OF THE CALIFORNIA TYPE 2 BRIDGE APPROACH GARDRAIL RESULTS INDICATE THAT THE TYPE 9 BRIDGE BARRIER RAIL DESIGN, AS TESTED, WILL ADEQUATELY RETAIN AND REDIRECT A 4500-LB. PASSENGER VEHICLE IMPACTING INTO IT AT 60 MPH/25 DEG. AS A RESULT OF THE THREE APPROACH RAIL TESTS, A BRIDGE APPROACH GUARDRAIL DESIGN WAS DEVELOPED WHICH WILL EFFECTIVELY RETAIN AND REDIRECT A PASSENGER VEHICLE IMPACTING AT 60 MPH/25 DEG. AS WELL AS PROVIDING CONTINUITY WITH THE BRIDGE BARRIER RAIL FOR AN AESTHETICALLY PLEASING INSTALLATION. /AUTHOR/
