TRAJECTORIES OF SEEDS AND GRANULAR FERTILIZERS
LITERATURE IS REVIEWED ON THE MATHEMATICAL DESCRIPTION OF THE TRAJECTORY OF THE PROJECTILE. THIS KNOWLEDGE IS BACKGROUND TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF A THEORY TO PREDICT TRAJECTORIES OF SEEDS AND GRANULAR FERTILIZERS TO DESIGN A BROADCAST-TYPE DISTRIBUTOR THAT WILL SPREAD A UNIFORM APPLICATION OF SEEDS OR GRANULAR FERTILIZERS. TRAJECTORY EQUATIONS ARE DEVELOPED FOR A SPHERICAL PARTICLE IN AN UNDISTURBED MEDIUM WITH AIR RESISTANCE DUE TO A VARIABLE DRAG-COEFFICIENT BUILT INTO THE EQUATIONS. ANALOG COMPUTER SOLUTIONS TO THE TRAJECTORY EQUATIONS SHOW TRAJECTORIES AND VARIATION IN VELOCITIES AND DRAG COEFFICIENT FOR SEVERAL PLASTIC SPHERES, SEEDS AND GRANULAR FERTILIZERS. THE DRAG COEFFICIENT VARIES CONSIDERABLY WHERE THE REYNOLDS NUMBER IS LOW, AND REMAINS ESSENTIALLY CONSTANT AT HIGHER REYNOLDS NUMBERS. VERIFICATION OF THE ANALOG COMPUTER SOLUTIONS SHOW MOST ACTUAL TRAJECTORIES WITHIN TEN PERCENT OF THE THEORECTICAL SOLUTIONS. USING THESE DATA, AN ANALYSIS IS DEVELOPED SHOWING HOW TO OBTAIN A UNIFORM DISTRIBUTION FROM A BROADCAST DISTRIBUTOR.
