A DETAILED ANALYSIS OF DATA ON HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE BY CONTRACT COLLECTED FROM STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENTS WAS COMPILED. THE FIRST PART CONTAINS THE FORMS USED TO COLLECT THE INFORMATION, TYPE OF CONTRACTS WITH DETAILS BY STATES AND COUNTIES ON COST, NUMBER OF CONTRACTS, ETC. THERE ARE ALSO OTHER CHARTS INDICATING MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES PERFORMED BY STATES AND COUNTIES AND TOTAL NUMBER OF CONTRACTS, INFORMATION GIVEN TO CONTRACTORS, PROPOSED INCREASE OR DECREASE IN CONTRACT WORK, AND OVERHEAD CHARGES. THE SECOND PART DEALS WITH THE ITEM OF WORK CONTRACTED, SCOPE OF WORK, QUANTITY, ITEM BID PRICE, AND APPROXIMATE UNIT COST. A GENERAL SUMMARY OF DATA COLLECTED IS INCLUDED IN THE COMMITTEE MAINTENANCE AID DIGEST, MAD-4, AUGUST 1973.
