AN HISTORICAL ACCOUNT IS GIVEN OF ELECTRIC HEATING OF SOILS TO ELIMINATE SNOW, FROST AND GLAZED FROST ON ROADS, AND AIRFIELDS. THE PROBLEM OF ELECTRICAL HEATING OF ROADWAYS IN GENERAL, AND A DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAMS IN VARIOUS COUNTRIES IS PRESENTED. ELECTRICAL HEATING OF AIRFIELDS IS DEALT WITH AND SOME CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS ARE MADE. LISTS OF BIBLIOGRAPHIES WHICH MAY BE USEFUL ARE INCLUDED. /AUTHOR/
