MAINTENANCE OF HIGH MOUNT ILLUMINATION SYSTEMS

AN ELECTRICAL-MECHANICAL SERVICE CAR WAS USED TO TRANSPORT PERSONNEL AND EQUIPMENT FROM THE GROUND TO THE TOP OF THE HIGH MOUNT LIGHT POLE OR TO ANY INTERMEDIATED POINT. THE POWER SYSTEM CONSISTS OF A 110-VOLT ELECTRIC MOTOR WITH AN ATTACHED TRANSFORMER TO OBTAIN POWER FROM THE 480-VOLT BALLAST BOX LOACTED AT THE BASE OF EACH POLE. POWER IS CONDUCTED THROUGH A 120-FOOT ELECTRIC CORD CONNECTED FROM THE TRANSFORMER TO AN OUTLET ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE BALLAST BOX. THE ELECTRIC MOTOR IS LOCATED DIRECTLY BENEATH THE PLATFORM AND IS CONNECTED TO A SELF-LEVELING 8-INCH DIAMETER WINCH, WHICH CLIMBS A 3/8-INCH STAINLESS STEEL WIRE CABLE, PERMANENTLY ATTACHED TO THE TOP OF EACH POLE BY A WELDED STEEL HANGER. WHEN NOT IN USE THIS CABLE IS WOUND AROUND THE POLE AND PADLOCKED NEAR THE BASE. THE CAR MAY BE RAISED, LOWERED, OR STOPPED BY THE CONTROL SWITCH LOCATED ON THE CAR. WHEN SERVICING IS REQUIRED, THE SERVICE CAR IS TRANSPORTED TO THE INTERCHANGE BY A MAINTENANCE TRUCK, THE ELECTRICAL CORD IS CONNECTED TO THE BALLAST BOX, AND THE WIRE CABLE IS UNWRAPPED FROM THE POLE AND ATTACHED THROUGH THE CAR FRAME TO THE WINCH LOCATED BELOW THE PLATFORM.
