NEW HIGH SPEED PLOWS ON I-89

AT THIS TIME, NEW HAMPSHIRE IS THE ONLY STATE WORKING WITH EXPERIMENTAL HIGH SPEED SNOWPLOWS. THE PLOW IS MOUNTED UNDER THE TRUCK AND DISCHARGES ONLY TO THE RIGHT. WHILE THE TRIPPING ACTION IS ACCOMPLISHED ONLY WHEN THE PLOW STRIKES A SOLID OBJECT, THE VERTICAL MOVEMENT IS POWERED BY A SMALL HYDRAULIC UNIT WHICH IS MOUNTED IN THE CAB AND OPERATED WITH A SINGLE CONTROL LEVER, WELL WITHIN REACH OF THE DRIVER. THE PLOW IS HELD TO THE ROAD SURFACE BY TORSION SPRINGS MOUNTED TO THE TRUCK. WITH PLOWS OPERATING AT SPEEDS OF 50 TO 60 MILES PER HOUR, THERE IS NO NEED FOR THE MOTORIST TO PASS A PLOW, AN ACTION WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. /AUTHOR/
