SURFACE DRESSING ON MOTORWAYS-COST ASPECTS

A COST ANALYSIS IS PERFORMED ON SEVERAL ASPECTS OF SURFACE DRESSING OPERATIONS SUCH AS MATERIALS; PLANT AND LABOR; ROAD MARKINGS; TRAFFIC DELAYS DUE TO ROAD CLOSURES; OVERHEADS, INCLUDING THE RENT OF THE STOCK-PILE SITE, CONTRACTOR'S HEAD OFFICE EXPENSE, COST OF SETTING OUT CONES AND SIGNS, ETC. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT CAREFUL PLANNING AND CONTROL CAN ELIMINATE INEFFICIENT PRACTICES AND MOST OF THE CAUSES OF DELAY, AND THUS HELP TO MINIMIZE THE TOTAL COST OF THE WORK. /RRL/
