METHODS OF REPAIRING CRACKS IN CONCRETE ROADS
CRACKS ARE CLASSIFIED INTO ACTIVE CRACKS AND NON ACTIVE CRACKS (ACTIVE CRACKS BEHAVE LIKE JOINTS AND ARE SUBJECT TO MOVEMENTS CAUSING SPALLING; NON-ACTIVE CRACKS ARE ONLY SUBJECT TO SMALL TRAFFIC AND THERMAL MOVEMENTS), AND INTO TRANSVERSE, LONGITUDINAL, CORNER AND PLASTIC CRACKS (THE LATTER ARE DUE TO A RAPID DECREASE IN THE HUMIDITY OF CONCRETE WHILE IN A PLASTIC STATE). AMONG METHODS OF REPAIRING CRACKS OF DIFFERENT WIDTH (INFERIOR TO 0.15 MM TO 0.5 MM AND OVER 1MM), THE FOLLOWING ARE OUTLINED: SEALING AFTER CLEANING, INSTALLING TIE AND DOWEL BARS, INJECTION OF SYNTHETIC RESIN, SPALLING AND SCALING ARE TREATED BY SCARIFYING THE SURFACE AND INSERTING A NEOPRENE STRIP FITTED WITH WIRE CORES WHICH CAN BE BENT TO FOLLOW THE LINE OF THE CRACK. /LCPC/RRL/
