Technologies for thin-layer maintenance
Several methods of maintenance have been developed in the road construction industry to help assure the quality of layers in general and wearing courses in special. This paper deals with the description of several technical aspects such as thin-layer recycling by hot and cold procedures and machines technology, fine milling of wearing courses and levelling systems in road milling and recycling machines. The central element of the cold recycler is a milling drum which cuts through the pavement materials and mixes it with binders in a robust milling and mixing chamber. The various possibilities for adding different binding agents were taken into account in the design of the machine. Various injection systems are available, depending on which binding agent is being used. Several different types of cold recyclers and soil stabilizers are highlighted as well as their specific applications with examples from the field. For the covering abstract see ITRD E144473.
