STUDY OF THE AGGREGATE IMPACT AND CRUSHING VALUE TESTS

FINE-GRAINED BASIC IGNEOUS ROCKS HAVE A CONSISTENT AND PREDICTABLE RESPONSE TO THE NORMAL BRITISH STANDARDS TESTS FOR THE PHYSICAL NATURE OF ROADSTONE AGGREGATE (I. E., AGGREGATE IMPACT VALUE AND AGGREGATE CRUSHING VALUE). THE RESULTS OF THESE TESTS DISPLAY A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP AND IT WAS FOUND THAT THE VALUES OBTAINED IN BOTH ARE INFLUENCED IN PART BY PARTICLE SHAPE AND IN PART BY THE PETROGRAPHY. THIS PROVIDES A MEANS OF UNDERSTANDING THE VARIABILITY RECORDED WITHIN THE ROCK GROUP. NEW VALUES, AGGREGATE IMPACT VALUE RESIDUE AND AGGREGATE CRUSHING VALUE RESIDUE, HAVE BEEN INTRODUCED IN BOTH TESTS WHICH ARE MORE SENSITIVE INDICATORS OF AGGREGATE QUALITY AND WHICH REVEAL MORE ABOUT THE BEHAVIOR OF THE AGGREGATE DURING TESTING. /AUTHOR/
