RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF HIGHLY CENTRALIZED CONTROL SYSTEM OF SHIPS (SUPER AUTOMATION)

The report of the integrated committee set up within the Ship Bureau of the Japanese Ministry of Transport is summarized. The planned four year research and development program for computer controlled ship automation is outlined, giving the problems to be studied in the areas of navigation, cargo handling, mooring, fire protection, communications, propulsion, and computer hardware and software.
