TEST PROCEDURES FOR QUALITY OF BASE AND SUBBASE MATERIALS
THE STUDY WAS UNDERTAKEN TO ESTABLISH A RATIONAL APPROACH TO THE QUALITATIVE DETERMINATION OF BASE AND SUBBASE MATERIALS. A COMPREHENSIVE LABORATORY TESTING PROGRAM WAS CARRIED OUT AND TEST RESULTS WERE ANALYZED. A STRENGTH TEST WAS USED RATHER THAN A GRADATION TEST. THE FINDINGS FAVOR THE USE OF TRIAXIAL COMPRESSION TEST FOR QUALITATIVE IDENTIFICATION OF AGGREGATES. BASED ON THE TRIAXIAL COMPRESSION TEST RESULTS, TENTATIVE STANDARDS FOR QUALITATIVE CLASSIFICATION OF BASE AND SUBBASE MATERIALS HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED. /AUTHOR/
