GALVANIZED WIRE FOR PRESTRESSED CONCRETE
WHETHER THE GALVANIZING OF HIGH STRENGTH STEEL WIRE CAN INCREASE THE LIFE OF THE WIRE IN PRESTRESSED CONCRETE APPLICATIONS WITHOUT CAUSING HYDROGEN EMBRITTLEMENT DURING THE CONCRETE SETTING PERIOD IS UNDER STUDY. TESTS ARE BEING CONDUCTED (RESULTS NOT YET CONCLUSIVE) ON (1) THE MECHANICAL AND PHYSICAL CHARACTER- ISTICS OF WIRES, (2) THE CHEMICAL AND ELECTROCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF VARIOUS CEMENTS, (3) THE CHEMICAL INTERACTION BETWEEN ZINC AND DIFFERENT CEMENTS, AND (4) THE POST-TENSIONING OF CONCRETE BEAMS WITH A WIRE ROPE OF GALVANIZED WIRES.
