BRIEF INVESTIGATION OF THE COMPACTION PARAMETERS OF A SATURATED CLAY
THE COMPRESSIBILITY CHARACTERISTICS OF A SATURATED CLAY WERE INVESTIGATED BY UNIXIAL COMPRESSION TESTS AT A FIXED DEFORMATION RATE. AN ESTIMATE OF THE LOGARITHM OF THE VOIDS INDEX CURVE WAS DERIVED FROM MEASURES OF COMPRESSION, THE TOTAL LOAD APPLIED, AND THE NEUTRAL PRESSURE OF THE SAMPLE BASE. THESE CURVES WERE COMPARED WITH ONES OBTAINED FROM CONVENTIONAL TESTS AND PROVED TO BE OF IDENTICAL FORM BUT SHIFTED TO THE LEFT OF THE LATTER. THE RESULTING COMPRESSION INDEX AND THE MINIMUM PRECOMPACTION PRESSURE EXHIBIT A DISCREPANCY OF ABOUT 20% FROM THE CONVENTIONAL TESTS. /RRI/
