THE UTILISATION OF CEMENT-STABILISED WASTE MATERIALS IN ROAD CONSTRUCTION
THIS PAPER CONSIDERS THE EXTENT TO WHICH THE ROAD CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY CAN USE LOW-GRADE AND WASTE MATERIALS FOR BASE AND SUB-BASE CONSTRUCTION. IT DISCUSSES THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THE USE OF SUCH MATERIALS ON PRACTICAL, ECONOMIC AND AESTHETIC CONSIDERATIONS. FOUR GROUPS OF MATERIALS - CHALK, PULVERISED FUEL ASH, COLLIERY SHALE, AND QUARRY WASTES - ARE DEALT WITH IN DETAIL. THEY ALL OCCUR IN LARGE QUANTITIES AND WHEN STABILIZED WITH CEMENT THEY CAN ALL BE MADE SUITABLE FOR USE IN ROAD PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTION. /AUTHOR/
