ON THE YOUNG'S MODULUS OF A TWO-PHASE MATERIAL
THE PROBLEM OF THE DETERMINATION OF THE YOUNG'S MODULUS OF A MATERIAL COMPOSED OF TWO ISOTROPIC PHASES BONDED TOGETHER IS STUDIED. CONCRETE MUST BE CONSIDERED AS A SPECIAL CASE OF SUCH A MATERIAL. LABORATORY TESTS OF SEVERAL MATRICES WITH DIFFERENT AGGREGATES, UP TO 0.80 AGGREGATE CONCENTRATION, SHOWED THAT THE YOUNG'S MODULUS OF A MIXTURE, THE YOUNG'S MODULUS OF ITS CONSTITUENTS, AND THEIR MIX PROPORTION ARE RELATED THROUGH AN EXPONENTIAL RELATION. THE EFFECT OF THE POISSON'S RATIO OF EACH ONE OF THE TWO PHASES SEEMS TO BE NEGLIGIBLE WHILE THE EFFECT OF THE GEOMETRY AND THE BOND BETWEEN MATRIC AND AGGREGATES ARE IMPORTANT. /AUTHOR/
