A NEW APPROACH TO THE DETERMINATION OF BITUMINOUS MIXES BY RADIOACTIVE ISOTOPES. PARTS 1 AND 2
VARIOUS METHODS OF DETERMINING THE BITUMEN CONTENT OF BITUMINOUS MIXES ARE REVIEWED AND COMPARED WITH A RECENTLY DEVELOPED NON-DESTRUCTIVE METHOD BASED ON THE USE OF RADIOACTIVE ISOTOPES. THE RADIO ISOTOPE METHOD IS DESCRIBED TOGETHER WITH EQUIPMENT USED. ITS ADVANTAGES OVER OTHER METHODS INCLUDE QUICKNESS, HIGH ACCURACY, LARGE VOLUME MEASURE, AND ECONOMY. THE EQUIPMENT IS PORTABLE. ACTUAL BITUMEN CONTENT VALUES, OBTAINED BY THE NUCLEAR AND BY THE CENTRIFUGE EXTRACTION METHODS, ARE COMPARED. /RRL/
