MECHANISM OF FRACTURE IN GLASSY POLYMERS
THE INVESTIGATION OF CRAZING RESPONSE DURING CRACK PROPAGATION IN NINE POLYMERS SHOWED THAT ONLY RIGID PVC FAILS TO REVEAL EVIDENCE THAT FRACTURE PROPAGATION INVOLVES THE FORMATION AND BREAKING OF CRAZE MATERIAL. THE ORDER OF DECREASING EASE OF CRAZING FOR THE OTHER EIGHT POLYMERS IS POLYMETHYL METHACRYLATE, POLYETHYL METHACRYLATE, POLYSTYRENE, STYRENE-ACRYLONITRILE COPOLYMER, POLYALPHA- METHY STYRENE, POLYVINYL ACETATE, POLYHYDROXY ETHER (PHENOXY) AND POLYCARBONATE. /ARTICLE/
