THIN FILM CHROMATOGRAPHY OF ULTRAVIOLET ABSORBERS
THIN FILM CHROMATOGRAPHY PROVIDES A RELIABLE METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF SMALL QUANTITITES OF DERIVATIVES OF OF BENZOPHENONE, BENZOTRIAZOLE, AND ACRYLONITRILE IN POLYSTYRENE AND POLYPROPYLENE. IN CONTRAST, UV ABSORBERS EXTRACTED FROM POLAR POLYMERS, SUCH AS POLYMETHYL METHACRYLATE, PVC, AND STYRENE ACRYLONITRILE COPOLYMER, GAVE LOW VALUES. A COMPLEX MAY BE FORMED BETWEEN THE POLAR POLYMERS AND THE UV ABSORBER SO THAT THE MATERIAL CHROMATOGRAPHED IS NOT THE SIMPLE COMPOUND ADDED TO THE POLYMER. /ARTICLE/
