COMPARATIVE INVESTIGATION OF MINERAL FILLERS IN A STREET- MARKING PAINT
CRYSTALLIZED CA CARBONATES SUCH AS 2.5 MU MILLICARB, 5 MU OMYA LP/2, 14 MU CALIBRITE, NORMAL WHITENING AND OTHER MINERAL FILLERS OF DIFFERENT CHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND STRUCTURE, SUCH AS NATURAL BASO4, DOLOMITE, TALC, CLAY, AND QUARTZ POWDER WERE INVESTIGATED WITH REGARD TO THEIR VISCOSITY, STORAGE STABILITY, SEDIMENTATION, DISPERSION, DRYING TIME, WHITENING DEGREE, COVERING POWER, ABRASION RESISTANCE, WATER ABSORPTION, SHADE FASTNESS, BLEEDING ON BITUMEN, HOT-COLD SHOCK, AND GENERAL APPEARANCE. THE TYPE, THE GRAIN DISPERSION, AND THE STRUCTURE OF THE MINERAL FILLERS TESTED HAD A SPECIAL EFFECT ON THE DURABILITY OF THE PAINT. NO PRACTICAL INFLUENCE ON THE STABILITY TO STORAGE, THE WATER RESISTANCE, THE BLEEDING ON BITUMEN, AND THE HOT- COLD SHOCK WAS FOUND. THE BEST RESULTS WERE OBTAINED WITH MILLICARB, A CRYSTALLIZED CALCIUM CARBONATE WITH AN AVERAGE STATISTICAL GRANULATION OF 2.5 MU AND A GRAIN DISPERSION OF 1-8 MU. QUARTZ POWDER WAS THE POOREST FILLER INVESTIGATED. /AUTHOR/
