INVESTIGATION OF PAINTS AND GLASS BEADS USED IN TRAFFIC DELINEATION MARKINGS - PHASE I
THE FIELD EVALUATION OF A MISSOURI DISPERSION RESIN-VARNISH TYPE PAINT AND A CHLORINATED RUBBER-ALKYD PAINT IN A TRANSVERSE STRIPE CLEARLY INDICATES THE SUPERIORITY OF THE CHLORINATED RUBBER-ALKYD PAINT TO RESIST WEAR. THE RESULTS INDICATE THAT THERE IS APPROXIMATELY 1% INCREASES IN EXPECTED LIFE FOR EACH INCREASE IN WET FILM MIL THICKNESS FOR THE MISSOURI DISPERSION RESIN-VARNISH TYPE PAINTS AND 3% INCREASES IN EXPECTED LIFE FOR EACH INCREASE IN WET FILM APPLIED IN THICKNESS RANGE FROM 10 MILE TO 20 MILE. THE METHOD OF VISUAL EVALUATION OF THE PAINT STRIPES WHICH CORRELATED BEST WITH THE ACTUAL STRIPE LIFE WAS THE GENERAL APPEARANCE RATING SYSTEM. VISUAL EVALUATION WAS ALSO MADE BY THE ABRASION AND CHIPPING RATING SYSTEMS AS DESCRIBED BY ASTM. /AUTHOR/
