POTENTIAL OF NEUTRON ACTIVATION ANALYSIS OF HIGHWAY MATERIALS - PHASE I, REPORT

A FEASIBILITY STUDY WAS MADE REGARDING THE APPLICATION OF NEUTRON ACTIVATION ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES TO THE QUANTITATIVE LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF SUCH HIGHWAY MATERIALS AS ALUMINUM, FERROUS METALS, ZINC, PAINT PIGMENTS, LIMESTONE AND CEMENT. THE REALISTIC POTENTIAL OF ACTIVATION ANALYSIS WAS COMPARED WITH CONVENTIONAL WET METHODS OF ANALYSIS AS WELL AS WITH X-RAY FLUORESCENCE AND ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROSCOPY. OF THESE METHODS, IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT ATOMIC ABSORPTION-FLAME EMISSION METHODS HAVE THE GREATEST POTENTIAL FOR REPLACING AND IMPROVING UPON CURRENT HIGHWAY MATERIALS ANALYSIS PROCEDURES. /BPR/
