THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MIXING TIME AND TYPE OF CONCRETE MIXER
PRESENT REGULATIONS PRESCRIBE THAT THE DURATION OF MIXING FOR CONCRETE SHALL BE AT LEAST 90 SECONDS. THE INVESTIGATIONS INVOLVED AN EXAMINATION OF THE JUSTIFICATION FOR THIS MIXING TIME AS A GENERAL RULE FOR VARIOUS TYPES OF MIXER AND MIX ANALYSIS, AT THE SAME TIME AS AN EFFORT WAS MADE TO EVOLVE A SUITABLE TEST METHOD. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE DEGREE OF MACROHOMOGENISATION OF THE CEMENT IS THE BEST CRITERION OF SATISFACTORY MIXING AND THIS SHOULD THEREFORE FORM THE BASIS OF A TEST METHOD. ACCORDING TO THIS INVESTIGATION, WHEN MIXING TIME IS ASSESSED WITH DUE REGARD TO THIS CRITERION IT MAY BE REDUCED IN CERTAIN CASES TO LESS THAN IS PRESENTLY REQUIRED. /AUTHOR/
