OPERATIONS RESEARCH (OR) BETTER MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT
TO DETERMINE OPTIMUM PLACEMENT OF MAINTENANCE STATIONS FOR SNOW REMOVAL, A MATHEMATICAL MODEL WAS DEVELOPED TO TEST RELATIONSHIPS OF SUCH VARIABLES AS WEATHER, TRUCK SPEED, DISTANCE TO THE JOB, COST OF OPERATION, AND LEVEL OF SERVICE. ORIGINALLY A LARGER MODEL WAS DEVELOPED; HOWEVER, A NUMBER OF SMALLER MODELS HAD TO BE DEVELOPED FOR EACH FUNCTION, WHEN THE LARGER MODEL PROVED TO BE TOO MUCH FOR THE COMPUTER TO HANDLE. TWO MODELS - SANDING AND PLOWING-ARE MENTIONED BRIEFLY TO ILLUSTRATE THAT QUITE A NUMBER OF CONSTRAINTS (FUNDING IS GIVEN AS AN EXAMPLE) AND VARIABLES WERE CONSIDERED.
