NEW WINTER MAINTENANCE TECHNIQUES FOR AREA STATES

A LIGHT WINTER IN THE AMERICAN MOUNTAIN REGION DURING THE 1971-72 SNOW AND ICE SEASON IN NO WAY DIMINISHED THE ENTHUSIASM OF MAINTENANCE MEN TO CONTINUE RESEARCH AND ATTEMPT NEW METHODS FOR SNOW AND ICE CONTROL. MAINTENANCE EXECUTIVES IN THE AREA ARE CONSTANTLY UPGRADING THEIR EQUIPMENT FLEETS AND PLACING MORE EMPHASIS ON OPERATOR TRAINING INCLUDING SCHOOLS COVERING ALL TYPES OF MAINTENANCE MACHINERY. SNOW FENCE, OF A DIFFERENT TYPE THAN USED IN PREVIOUS YEARS, IS VERY MUCH BACK IN THE PICTURE IN SOME AREA STATES. SNOW REMOVAL BY THE CONTRACT METHOD IS UTILIZED IN THE AREA, WITH THE LEADER BEING THE WYOMING STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT. AREA MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT REPORTS ARE SUMMARIZED.
