AUTO PAINTS AND FINISHES THAT PROVIDE BETTER VISIBILITY AND GLARE-REDUCTION CHARACTERISTICS HAVE RECEIVED LITTLE EMPHASIS FROM CARMAKERS, NOT BECAUSE OF THE MANUFACTURERS OR PAINT SUPPLIERS BUT BECAUSE CUSTOMERS HAVE EXPRESSED LITTLE INTEREST. THE TREND AWAY FROM DARKER COLORS, WHICH ACCORDING TO THE AMERICAN AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION HAVE A HIGHER ACCIDENT RISK THAN LIGHTER ONES, IS ATTRIBUTED TO CONSIDERATIONS OF STYLE AND HEAT REFLECTION. TRUCK OPERATORS ARE ADVISED TO STAY WITH YELLOW, CREAMS, AND ORANGES AND TO REMEMBER THAT REDS TEND TO FADE AT NIGHT. EARTH COLORS SHOULD BE AVOIDED IN MOUNTAIN AREAS, AND HIGHLY ACCENTED LIGHTER SHADES SHOULD BE USED IN THE CITY. AS VISIBILITY IS LOWEST IN THE DARK INTERIOR OF A TRUCK WHEN ITS REAR GATE IS OPEN AND AT THE REAR CORNERS OF THE BODY, THE CORNERS OF TRUCKS SHOULD BE HIGHLIGHTED WITH YELLOWS OR ORANGES, WHILE THE SECURING CHAINS AT THE REAR SHOULD BE PAINTED WITH FLUORESCENT. CLOSED TRUCK DOORS SHOULD BE BARRICADED WITH REFLECTIVE OR FLUORESCENT PAINTS.
