DYNAMIC RESPONSE OF BEAMS TO A TRAVELING MASS
THE PROBLEM OF A MASS MOVING ALONG A BEAM HAVING OTHER THAN SIMPLY SUPPORTED ENDS HAS NOT BEEN GIVEN MUCH ATTENTION. AN INTEGRAL EQUATION APPROACH IS USED FOR THE RESPONSE OF A CANTILEVER BEAM TO A MASS PARTICLE MOVING WITH CONSTANT VELOCITY ON A BEAM. THE OBTAINED SOLUTION IS TRUE FOR THE CASE OF A CONCENTRATED MASS MOVING WITH ARBITRARY ACCELERATED MOTION ON ANY BEAM WHOSE EIGEN FUNCTION HAS THE SAME FORM AS THAT OF A CANTILEVER BEAM. THIS METHOD HAS THE ADVANTAGE THAT IT CAN BE APPLIED TO A MOVING MASS ON A PLATE AND ALSO TO MOVING MASSES ON PLATES OR BEAMS WHICH REST ON AN ELASTIC FOUNDATION. /AUTHOR/
