ACCIDENT ANALYSIS BY COMPUTER

SINCE AUGUST 1967, A COMPUTER SYSTEM IN HERTFORDSHIRE HAS ANALYSED ALL ACCIDENTS IN THE COUNTY, WHETHER ON MAIN ROUTES, IN URBAN AREAS OR ELSEWHERE. THE SYSTEM IS BASED ON LOCATION OF ACCIDENTS BY GRID REFERENCE,AND THEREFORE IS SUITABLE FOR USE ANYWHERE. A BASIC SUITE OF FIVE LINKED COMPUTER PROGRAMS PROVIDES FACILITIES FOR DATA FILING, ESSENTIAL AUTOMATIC ANALYSIS AND RANDOM INTERROGATION OF THE DATA FILE. FURTHER PROGRAMS PROVIDE SPECIAL FACILITIES. AS NOW OPERATED, THE HERTFORDSHIRE SYSTEM QUICKLY AND EASILY DETECTS ALL HIGH-RISK AREAS, SKID SITES AND 'BLACK SPOTS' IN THE COUNTY, WHEREVER THEY MAY OCCUR, AND BAD SECTIONS OF ALL MAIN ROUTES. REAL ENGLISH REPORTS FOR ANY ACCIDENTS MAY BE OBTAINED AS REQUIRED. CURRENT AND PROPOSED FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS WILL FURTHER INCREASE THE USEFULNESS OF THE SYSTEM. /AUTHOR/
