HOW CAN WE IMPROVE DRIVER EDUCATION?
IT IS SUGGESTED THAT DRIVER EDUCATION NEEDS IMPROVEMENT, CHIEFLY BECAUSE TOO LITTLE TIME IS SPENT ON IT; 30 HOURS OF CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION AND 6 HOURS OF LABORATORY INSTRUCTION HAVE BECOME THE STANDARD. THE HIGHWAY SAFETY STANDARD ON DRIVER EDUCATION IS QUOTED AND DISCUSSED. IT IS SUGGESTED THAT HIGH QUALITY DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR ALL AGE GROUPS MUST BE DEVELOPED; THAT THE ESTABLISHMENT OF POOR QUALITY DRIVER EDUCATION SYSTEMS MUST BE PREVENTED; AND THAT INADEQUATE PROGRAMS WHICH CANNOT BE UPGRADED SHOULD BE DISCONTINUED. BETTER QUALIFIED DRIVER EDUCATION TEACHERS ARE ALSO NEEDED. /HSL/
