USE OF HIGH-MAST INTERCHANGE LIGHTING INCREASES
THE FIRST OF THE MODERN HIGH-MAST INSTALLATIONS IN THE UNITED STATES WAS MADE APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AGO IN AUBURN, WASHINGTON. THIS INSTALLATION USED 100-FOOT TAPERED STEEL POLES AND THREE 1000W METALLIC-HALIDE FIXTURES PER POLE IN AN INDUSTRIAL TYPE LUMINAIRE TO GIVE A CIRCULAR TYPE V DISTRIBUTION. THE RESULTS OF ECONOMIC ANALYSES SUGGEST THAT SYSTEMS EMPLOYING 100-FOOT MOUNTING HEIGHTS PROVIDE AN ECONOMIC ADVANTAGE OVER THE 45-FOOT MOUNTING HEIGHT IN TERMS OF INITIAL INVESTMENT OR ANNUAL OPERATING COSTS WHETHER OR NOT THE FIXED ANNUAL COSTS ARE INCLUDED. THE QUESTION OF SERVICING THE LIGHTS IS YET TO BE RESOLVED.
