CUSHION-CAR INVENTION WOULD DO AWAY WITH SAFETY BELTS
A "CUSHION-CAR" SYSTEM OF INTERNAL PADDING HAS BEEN DEVELOPED FOR MOTOR VEHICLES WHICH IT IS SAID WOULD DO AWAY WITH THE NEED FOR SAFETY BELTS. THE SYSTEM IS BASED ON CUSHIONING MOST OF THE CAR'S INTERIOR, INCLUDING THE ROOF, WITH A 3-INCH LAYER OF A NEW TYPE OF ENERGY-ABSORBING ISOCYANATES FOAM PADDING. THE NECESSARY MATERIALS WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $10.00 A CAR. SOME OF IT WOULD REPLACE THE EXISTING INTERIOR FINISH. THE CONVENTIONAL STEERING WHEEL WOULD BE REPLACED BY SMALL STEERING CONTROLS BURIED IN A HEAVILY PADDED "LAP BENCH", REPLACING THE FASCIA PANEL.
