LIGHTING IN AMSTERDAM'S IJ-TUNNEL
AMSTERDAM'S IJ-TUNNEL HAS A THRESHOLD ZONE TO ELIMINATE THE 'BLACK HOLE' EFFECT AT THE ENTRANCE, THEN A TRANSITION ZONE I (AVERAGE LUMINANCE: 65 CD/SQ. M; AVERAGE HORIZONTAL ILLUMINATION: 1 200 LUX), A TRANSITION ZONE II (31 CD/SQ. M; 540 LUX) AND THE CENTRAL ZONE (13.6 CD/SQ. M; 270 LUX). THE AVERAGE LUMINANCE LEVELS IN THE VARIOUS ZONES ARE AUTOMATICALLY ADJUSTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ILLUMINATION LEVEL OUTSIDE. LIGHT-SENSITIVE DETECTOR CELLS MONITOR TRAFFIC FLOW, AND IMMEDIATELY INFORM CENTRAL CONTROL OF CONGESTION OR STALLED VEHICLES. /RRL/A/
