COMPACTION TESTING BASED ON NUCLEAR METHOD. GRAMMA-RAYS EMPLOYED
SCHEID MASCHINENFABRIK, LIMBURG, ARE STUDYING THE RELATIVE EFFICIENCY OF VIBRATORY AND STATIC ROLLERS ON A COVERED TEST TRACK IN WHICH NUCLEAR INSTRUMENTS ARE INSTALLED. A 3-TON VIBRATORY ROLLER COMPACTED COHESIVE MATERIAL ALMOST AS WELL AS A 10-TON 3-WHEEL STATIC ROLLER. THE VIBRATORY ROLLER WAS MORE EFFECTIVE THAN THE STATIC ROLLER ON COHESIVE SANDY GRAVEL AND ON A BASALT MIXTURE. /RRL/
