REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON BRIDGE AND CULVERT MAINTENANCE
FROM QUESTIONAIRES SENT TO STATES, TERRITORIES AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, A GENERAL PICTURE OF THE STATUS OF BRIDGE MAINTENANCE ACROSS THE COUNTRY IS PRESENTED. IT WAS NOTED THAT THE VAST MAJORITY DID NOT HAVE A PERMANENT SYSTEM OF ROCORDS OF MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR; DID NOT HAVE REGULAR AND COMPLETE INSPECTION; 63% OF THE STATES THAT REPLIED HAD A LABOR GROUP ASSIGNED REGULARLY TO BRIDGE MAINTENANCE; 52% HAD SPECIFIC APPROPRIATIONS IN THEIR BUDGETS FOR BRIDGE MAINTNENACE AND REPAIR. OTHER FIGURES CONCERNING COSTS, REPLACEMENT LIMITS, ETC. ARE GIVEN.
