MORV: NEW EXPRESSWAY REPAIR CONCEPT
THIS ARTICLE IS BASED ON THE FINAL PROJECT REPORT OF A SEMESTER-LONG PROJECT AT THE ILLINOIS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY AND DESCRIBES AN IMAGINATIVE NEW CONCEPT IN EXPRESSWAY REPAIR WHICH COULD ELIMINATE TRAFFIC DELAYS. THE MOBILE OVERPASS ROADWAY REPAIR VEHICLE (MORV) IS A TRAVELING FACILITY ONE LANE WIDE, 4 FT HIGH AND 190 FT LONG, WHICH BRIDGES OVER THE REPAIR AREA, CARRYING LIGHT VEHICULAR TRAFFIC OVER IT WHILE REPAIR OPERATIONS PROCEED BENEATH. THE PRELIMINARY FEASIBILITY STUDY IS ENCOURAGING; WHETHER THE MORV EVER BECOMES REALITY IS DEPENDENT ON THE RESULTS OF FUTURE EXPERIMENTS ON DRIVER PSYCHOLOGY AND THOROUGH COST- BENEFIT ANALYSIS. /AUTHOR/
