URBAN MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS VS. BUDGET LIMITATIONS
THE MANNER IN WHICH TUCZON'S ROAD MAINTENANCE BUDGET IS FUNDED AND ALLOCATED IS DESCRIBED. THE MAINTENANCE FUNCTION IS FIRST BROKEN DOWN INTO NINE SEGMENTS (STREET SURFACES AND SIDEWALKS, SEALCOAT AND OVERLAY, STREET SWEEPING, TRAFFIC SIGNALS, TRAFFIC MARKINGS, STREET LIGHTS, WEED CONTROL, SURFACE AND SUBSURFACE DRAINAGE, AND MEDIAN ISLAND LANDSCAPING) WHOSE OPTIMUM ALLOCATION IS MADE BY DETERMINING THE MAGNITUDE OF THE WORK, ESTABLISHING UNIT COSTS AND FREQUENCIES, AND TOTALING THE RESULTING ESTIMATES. EACH SEGMENT IS CONSIDERED ON ITS OWN MERITS.
